What the price includes — and what it does not

Included in the hospital's hip replacement package:

  • general anaesthesia
  • the operation and the implant
  • three days on the hospital ward
  • up to seven post-operative outpatient physiotherapy sessions
  • a patient coordinator
  • a post-operative consultation with your rehabilitation plan

Pre-operative diagnostics for a hip replacement are confirmed individually, so ask for them to be itemised in your quote.

Not included:

  • flights
  • hotel accommodation, for you after discharge and for anyone travelling with you
  • a private room (available at extra cost)

The hospital has its own MRI and CT imaging and a rehabilitation department, and its international coordinators speak English, Polish, German and Arabic. Quotes are valid for 90 days.

Poland compared with a private hip replacement in the UK

Private hip replacement in the UK typically costs between about £12,000 and £20,000, and the first consultation is usually charged separately. Our guide to private hip replacement prices by hospital group lists the published figure for each of the large groups.

At €6,940, about £5,970, the Polish hospital price is roughly half the lower end of that range. The comparison is not complete until you add:

  • return flights for you and a companion
  • hotel nights after discharge, and for your companion throughout
  • travel insurance that covers planned treatment — most standard policies exclude it

For a hip replacement the price gap between Poland and other lower-cost European countries is clearer than for a knee. Our guide to going abroad for a hip replacement compares the main destinations.

How the trip works

  1. Assessment and consultation. You complete a short assessment and share your medical history and any X-rays you have. Whether a hip replacement is appropriate is confirmed in consultation with the surgeon.
  2. Written quote and date. The surgery date is set after that consultation, because it depends on your case and the surgeon's review.
  3. Deposit. A 20% deposit — about £1,190 on the cemented price — secures the date and is paid directly to the hospital, not to OrthoVoyage.
  4. Travel. Direct flights run from London to Wrocław, about two hours, followed by a private transfer of roughly an hour and a half.
  5. Surgery and hospital stay. Three days on the ward.
  6. Recovery nearby. Outpatient physiotherapy sessions follow discharge while you stay in a hotel close to the hospital.
  7. Flying home. There is no fixed day. Your surgeon clears you to fly based on how you are recovering. Book airport assistance for the return journey at least 48 hours ahead.
  8. Back in the UK. You return with your medical records in English, the implant details and a rehabilitation plan for your GP and physiotherapist.

After a hip replacement there are movement precautions in the early weeks. Your surgeon and physiotherapist will tell you which apply to you, including for the journey.

How to check a hospital in Poland before you pay

Poland is an EU member state, so private hospitals work under EU rules on medical devices and patient rights. That is a baseline, not a guarantee about any single hospital. Before paying a deposit, get these in writing:

  • the hospital's registered name and address, so you can look it up yourself
  • the surgeon's name and how many hip replacements they perform a year
  • the implant manufacturer and model
  • what happens, and who pays, if you need an extra night or a further procedure
  • who you contact after you are home, and how

The NHS publishes a checklist for anyone considering treatment abroad and advises telling your GP about your plans before you travel.

OrthoVoyage is a medical travel concierge, not a hospital, and does not give medical advice. Decisions about your treatment are made by you and your surgeon.
