Hip and Knee Replacement in Latvia: Prices for UK Patients, and How Poland Compares (2026)

Clinics in Riga publish joint replacement prices that look low — about £5,120 for a hip and £5,860 for a knee at one private clinic — but Latvian price lists often quote the operation and the implant separately and leave out anaesthesia, bed-days and physiotherapy. No all-inclusive package price was published on any Latvian clinic's own website when we checked on 7 October 2026. This page shows what is published and what to ask.

What is published in Latvia

Source Hip replacement Knee replacement What is left out
Private clinic in Riga (UK-facing page, undated) surgery £3,380 + implant from £1,740 surgery £3,380 + implant £2,480 Not itemised: anaesthesia, hospital nights and physiotherapy are not stated
Municipal hospital in Riga (paid price list, February 2026) operation €2,362–€2,481 operation €2,148 The implant, and everything other than the operation

Seen 7 October 2026. An earlier price offer from the private clinic stated plainly that its operation prices did "not include the price of endoprosthesis, anaesthesia and intensive care services, payment for bed-days, physiotherapist classes". That is the pattern to watch for: a Latvian headline price is usually a component, not a total.

Questions to ask a Latvian clinic

  1. What is the total, in writing, including the implant, anaesthesia and every hospital night?
  2. Which implant manufacturer and model is that price for?
  3. How many physiotherapy sessions are included, and what does each extra day cost?
  4. Is the hotel or rehabilitation stay inside the price?
  5. Is the price list current? Ask for the date.

Practical points

  • Flights: Riga Airport lists direct routes to London Gatwick, London Stansted, Edinburgh, Manchester, East Midlands and Leeds.
  • Length of trip: one clinic describes arriving on a Monday and leaving the following Monday, with optional extra weeks of rehabilitation.
  • Regulator: Latvia's Health Inspectorate keeps the register of medical treatment institutions.

Latvia or Poland?

Latvia (published figures) Poland (OrthoVoyage partner hospital)
Total hip replacement from about £5,120 for surgery and implant; other items not stated €6,940, about £5,970
Total knee replacement about £5,860 for surgery and implant; other items not stated €8,620, about £7,420
Anaesthesia not stated included
Hospital nights not stated three days included
Physiotherapy not stated up to seven outpatient sessions included

The Latvian figures are lower, but they are not totals. Once anaesthesia, bed-days and physiotherapy are added, the difference narrows — by how much depends on the quote you receive. The Polish prices are single list prices with the contents stated. Before you pay a deposit anywhere, get a Polish quote to set beside it — the assessment is free and takes a minute.
